The Deep Creek Dam was originally created for the Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec) to generate power. The Deep Creek Hydroelectric Power Plant has created a website to help outdoor enthusiasts plan their recreational activities on Deep Creek Lake and the Youghiogheny River. Real-time plant operating status and lake level measurements are consistently updated, as well as the operating rules, weather and river conditions, historic photos and information about the Deep Creek Project's impact on the community and the environment.
